We are really excited to introduce Makaton For… Early Years Settings. A half day session delivering targeting learning.

From snack time to story time, Makaton helps children be included, reduces frustration, and supports every child’s voice to be heard.

This workshop has been especially developed for nurseries, preschools, and childcare teams who want to:

– Build communication skills

– Create inclusive environments

– Give children the best start in life!

This is a 6-hour course with background information on Makaton, how and why we use it. Around 130 signs and symbols are taught around different themes or topics such as saying hello; using Makaton every day and at play; and eating and drinking. This training is open to families and professionals to attend sessions with or without a child. It can also be delivered in-house to professionals (attending with or without children) wanting to learn and plan how to embed Makaton into their setting or organisation together as part of a team. There is also the option of accessing this training as part of a whole or two half days of training without children attending. There are lots of practical activities to learn the signs and to use them in activities, songs and stories. Participants receive a Makaton Signing for Babies Pocket Book of Signs and Symbols before the course starts with all handouts being emailed to them. A Makaton Certificate of Attendance is given out upon completion of the course.

Using Makaton with Singing is a fun and easy way to learn to use signs with singing for young children. Singing and signing encourages the development of communication and language skills. It can be beneficial for vocalisation, confidence, emotional development and wellbeing. This half-day/3 hour workshop is ideal for Early Years Practitioners, parents, teachers, classroom assistants and musicians working with young people. Participants receive a manual with all the course information and the Makaton signs and symbols learnt in the session. Makaton Certificates of Attendance are issued once the Workshop is completed.

Start your Early Years Makaton learning today!

This is a short introduction into the background of Makaton, how and why we use it. Around 25-40 signs and symbols are taught in these sessions to enable participants to become effective communicators with Makaton users. There is the opportunity to add vocabulary and phrases to meet the needs of routines, organisations or settings. This session is up to 2 hours and includes sentence practice and handouts with the line drawings of the Makaton signs and symbols learnt. Attendees receive a Makaton Certificate of Attendance.
